My sketchbook : v. 1 Pentonville
George Cruikshank's My Sketch Book, issued in parts in London from 1834, collects his etched comic studies of Pentonville street life and London types for a print-buying public. Each plate crowds loose figure sketches, captioned jokes and grotesque heads onto one sheet, giving designers cut-out silhouettes, top-hatted men, fat and thin caricatures, and hand-lettered captions.
