Narrative and critical history of America
A multi-volume scholarly history of the Americas edited by Justin Winsor and issued by Houghton Mifflin in Boston and New York from 1884, written for historians, librarians and antiquarians and heavily illustrated with facsimiles of early documents and maps. The plates reproduce engraved French and Spanish charts of Hudson Bay, New France, Panama and Rio de Janeiro with compass roses, graticule borders, hachured coasts, stippled seas and ornamental cartouches, supplying line-engraved map textures, lettering models and decorative title panels.
