The structure of the grain boundary in ceramics
A 1968 NASA technical report by E. C. Dewys and M. H. Leipold on grain boundaries in magnesium oxide ceramics, written for materials scientists working with electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction. The plates are coarse-screened halftone micrographs: pale grey fields holding dark angular crystal fragments, striated cleavage planes, and scattered specks, usable as abstract texture, grain, and high-contrast silhouette material.
