The National portrait gallery
An illustrated catalogue of the National Portrait Gallery's holdings, published by Cassell in London and New York in 1901 for museum visitors, collectors, and students of British portraiture. Halftone reproductions of painted portraits, several to a page with numbers and canvas dimensions printed beneath, cover sitters from the seventeenth to the eighteenth century in wigs, clerical bands, lace cravats, and carved oval frames; useful for period faces, costume detail, and grid-arranged plate layouts.
