The National portrait gallery

National Portrait Gallery (Great Britain) · 1901 · London, New York [etc.] Cassell and company, limited · 171 pictures

A 1901 Cassell catalogue of the National Portrait Gallery's holdings, issued in London and New York for museum visitors, collectors and students of British portraiture. Halftone plates group painted busts, oval miniatures and marble sculpture portraits several to a page, each captioned with an accession number and dimensions, giving designers a supply of nineteenth-century head-and-shoulders likenesses in soft grey tone plus a ready-made grid layout of framed ovals and rectangles.
