Nature in ornament; an enquiry into the natural element in ornamental design & a survey of the ornamental treatment of natural forms
A design handbook by Lewis Foreman Day, published by Batsford in London in 1902, tracing how plant and animal forms were converted into ornament, written for craftsmen, students and teachers of the applied arts. The 313 figures are line and halftone reproductions of carved panels, tiles, textiles and printed borders, mostly foliage scrolls and rosettes, useful as scalable pattern and border stock.
