Nature's laws and the making of pictures
An 1903 London treatise on drawing and perspective by the marine painter W. L. Wyllie, issued by Edward Arnold for art students and amateur draughtsmen learning to construct light, water and distance. Its plates are grey wash and pen studies of estuary shipping, sailing barges, steamer smoke and figures on wet sand, set in wide horizontal bands with high empty skies, alongside perspective diagrams; useful for panoramic banner crops, rigging silhouettes and tonal wash textures.
