A seamanship manual by William N. Brady, published in New York by Taylor and Clement in 1841 to train apprentice sailors in the United States Navy in knotting, splicing and rigging. The plates are engraved line diagrams of knots, splices, blocks and tackles, anchors and buoys, each labelled in italic script and arranged loosely across the page, useful as ready-made rope and cordage motifs, technical diagram layouts, and hand-lettered captions.
