Flittner, Johann, fl. 1619-1625, Murner, Thomas, 1475-1537. Schelmen Zunfft · 1620 · Francofurti : Apud Iacobu[m] de Zetter · 39 pictures

A 1620 Frankfurt emblem book in Latin verse, Johann Flittner's satire on rogues and cheats after Thomas Murner's German Schelmenzunft, printed by Jacob de Zetter for learned readers who enjoyed moralizing wit. Each small upright plate sets one hat-wearing figure carrying out a knavish act in a bare landscape of ruled sky, hatched hillocks, a distant walled town and a single tree, giving designers isolated costumed figures and clean engraved textures that cut out easily.
