An 1889 instruction manual on fancy work and decorative painting, written by John Q. Reed and Eliza M. Lavin and issued by the Butterick Publishing Company in New York for women doing home needlework and china painting. Its 328 wood-engraved plates show embroidery stitch diagrams, scalloped and pointed edging samples, scattered flower sprays on shaded fan-shaped grounds, outline drawings of daisies and leaves for transfer, and scrolled strapwork borders with leaf-chain tails.
