New ideas in magic : illusions, spiritualistic effects, etc.
A manual of stage conjuring, illusions and fake spiritualist effects written by magician W. H. J. Shaw and printed in Blue Island, Illinois, in 1902 for working performers and amateur showmen. The plates mix coarse wood-engraved vignettes of a pipe-smoking performer in a folded paper hat with flat instructional diagrams of dice pips, creased envelopes and card suits, giving designers both crude figure cuts and simple geometric line schematics with hand-lettered labels.
