The new mission of art, a study of idealism in art
An aesthetic treatise by the Belgian Symbolist painter Jean Delville, translated by Francis Colmer and published in London in 1910 for readers interested in idealist theories of art. The plates are coarse-screen halftone reproductions of paintings and sculpture: robed crowds, a radiant haloed Christ above tumbling nude bodies, and marble groups lit against dark grounds, useful for grainy monochrome textures, radiating-disc motifs and massed figure compositions.
