A new touch-stone for gold and silver wares ..
A 1708 London trade manual on assaying and valuing gold and silver wares, written by the goldsmith William Babcock with John Reynolds and printed by W. Freeman for jewellers, refiners and buyers of plate. The plates are letterpress conversion tables: narrow ruled columns of ounces, pennyweights, grains, mites and parts, giving designers dense numeral grids, hairline rules and worn old-face figures.
