Nooks & corners of old New York
A popular guide to Manhattan's older streets and surviving landmark houses, written by Charles Hemstreet and published by Charles Scribner's Sons in New York in 1899 for readers curious about the city's past. The 34 pen drawings, signed E. C. Peixotto and dated 1898, render brick row houses, stoops, gas lamps and alley figures in loose hatching and dotted stipple against open paper, giving designers reusable streetscape vignettes, isolated facades and small silhouetted passersby.
