Notitia monastica: or, an account of all the abbies, priories, and houses of friers, heretofore in England and Wales; and also of all the colleges and hospitals founded before A.D. MDXL. By the Right Reverend Doctor Thomas Tanner, late Lord Bishop of St. Asaph ; published by John Tanner ... ..
An antiquarian county-by-county survey of English and Welsh abbeys, priories, friaries, colleges and hospitals dissolved before 1540, compiled by Bishop Thomas Tanner and published posthumously in London in 1744 by his brother John for scholars and church historians. The plates are dense engraved grids of numbered monastic coats of arms, each shield captioned with its house, plus a portrait of Tanner in an oval frame with acanthus cresting and a base of books and arms; designers can lift individual shields, ordinaries and charges, numbered grid layouts, and engraved frame ornament.
