Filippo Baldinucci's biographical dictionary of Italian artists from Cimabue onward, reissued in Turin in 1768 by the royal press under Giuseppe Piacenza, with plates by engravers Antonio Baratti and Carlo Faucci for collectors and students of Italian art. The sampled pages are printer's ornaments: symmetrical headpieces and tailpieces built from acanthus scrolls, grotesque masks, flower swags, cornucopias and a trophy of open book, globe and palm, usable as rules, spot ornaments and chapter openers.
