Filippo Baldinucci's biographical dictionary of Italian painters, sculptors and architects from Cimabue onward, reissued in Turin in 1768 by the royal press with notes by Giuseppe Piacenza and plates engraved by Antonio Baratti and Carlo Faucci, for collectors and students of art history. The ornament is letterpress and copperplate: symmetrical headpieces of scrollwork framing crowned cartouches, palettes, brushes, books and mahlsticks, and a larger etched vignette of putti with trumpets, laurel and an armillary sphere around a royal arms, all usable as rules, frames and emblem stock.
