A pattern book of heraldic ornament engraved and sold by Charles Mavelot in Paris in 1685, made for engravers, silversmiths and armorial painters needing ready-made frames. Each numbered plate centres a blank scrolling cartouche under a coronet, flanked by supporters — winged angels, rampant lions, stags, griffins, putti — leaving the shield empty for a designer's own device or lettering.
