Nouvelle de'couverte sur la lumiere, pour la mesurer & en compter les degrés
A short treatise on measuring degrees of light by the Capuchin friar François Marie, printed in Paris by L. Sevestre in 1700 for readers of experimental natural philosophy. The plates here are letterpress woodcut ornaments: banded headpieces of curling acanthus foliage flanking a crowned shield with fleurs-de-lis, and a small vignette of roses and pomegranates in a footed bowl, all in coarse black line suited to borders, dividers, crests and spot decoration.
