Novvelles inventions povr bien bastir et a petits fraiz
Philibert de l'Orme's treatise on new carpentry methods for building cheaply, printed in Paris by Fédéric Morel in 1561 for masons, carpenters and the patrons who employed them. Woodcut initials carry scrolling acanthus, five-petalled blossoms, beaked animal heads and a satyr climbing a vine, cut in open outline with light hatching; useful as drop caps, corner ornaments and repeatable leaf motifs.
