Giovanni Pietro Chattard's three-volume description of St Peter's Basilica and the Vatican, printed in Rome by the Barbiellini heirs in 1762 for antiquarians and pilgrims. The plates here are letterpress ornament: square woodcut initials with acanthus and sunflower foliage on hatched grounds, and engraved tailpieces of scrolled brackets under a tasselled canopy, usable as drop caps, dividers and frame corners.
