A volume of the "Nuova raccolta d'autori che trattano del moto dell'acque," a collection of Italian treatises on flowing water and hydraulics printed by F. Carmignani in Parma in 1766 for engineers, canal builders and land-drainage officials. The plates are engraved folding survey maps such as the Pontine Marshes scheme, combining stippled marsh and hill shading, branching river and canal lines, tiny towns and towers, a cartouche of explanatory text and a strip profile with measured scales \u2014 useful for map textures, hand-lettered cartouches and engineering diagram conventions.
