Observations upon the antiquities of the town of Herculaneum, discovered at the foot of Mount Vesuvius : with some reflections on the painting and sculpture of the ancients : and a short description of the antiquities in the neighbourhood of Naples
An archaeological report on the excavations at Herculaneum by French architect Jérôme Charles Bellicard and engraver Charles Nicolas Cochin, published in English translation in London in 1754 for antiquarians and artists. Small etched plates mix measured plans, sections and vaulted interiors with lettered keys alongside copies of Roman wall paintings, giving designers hatched architectural diagrams and loose figure vignettes at page scale.
