Œuvres complètes de M. le C[om]te de Buffon ... : histoire des animaux quadrupèdes

Buffon, Georges Louis Leclerc, comte de, 1707-1788, John Adams Library (Boston Public Library) BRL, Adams, John, 1735-1826, former owner · 1775 · A Paris : De l'Imprimerie royale · 11 pictures

A volume of Buffon's collected works on quadrupeds, printed at the Imprimerie royale in Paris in 1775 for learned subscribers, this copy once owned by John Adams. The scans here are the letterpress ornaments rather than the animal plates: small relief-cut tailpieces of star-flowered sprays, scrolled acanthus, and a barred fleur-de-lis, usable as dividers, colophon marks, and border units.
