Old English embroidery : its technique and symbolism
A study of English ecclesiastical and domestic needlework, written by Frances Marshall (as Alan St. Aubyn) with Hugh Marshall and published in London by H. Cox in 1894 for embroiderers, collectors and church decorators. Halftone plates reproduce copes, altar frontals, samplers and the Bayeux Tapestry, giving designers figured borders, compartmented saint panels, stitched foliage and repeating diaper grounds.
