The old masters and their pictures, for the use of schools and learners in art;
A survey of European painting written by Sarah Tytler for schoolchildren and beginning art students, reissued in Boston by Little, Brown in 1905. The plates are halftone reproductions of gallery paintings — Diana hunting, a Deposition with donor portraits, an enthroned Madonna with kneeling family, ceiling figures seen from below — giving designers soft grey tonal masses, steep foreshortening and crowded devotional groupings.
