Old picture books; with other essays on bookish subjects
Essays on early printed and illustrated books by British Museum bibliographer Alfred W. Pollard, published by Methuen in London in 1902 for collectors and students of book history. The plates reproduce fifteenth- and sixteenth-century woodcuts: crowned kings enthroned, scribes at desks, torture and martyrdom scenes, and decorated initials framed in foliate scrollwork, all in coarse black outline suited to enlargement.
