Omnia Andreae Alciati v.c. emblemata : cum commentariis, quibus emblematum omnium aperta origine, mens auctoris explicatur, & obscura omnia dubiáque illustrantur
Andrea Alciati's Latin emblem book with Claude Mignault's commentary, printed by Christopher Plantin at Antwerp in 1577, for humanist readers who read mottoes, pictures and verse together. The 259 square woodcuts, cut after Virgil Solis and engraved by Geeraard van Kampen, set mythological and moral scenes in hatched landscapes inside heavy arabesque borders, useful for figure vignettes, emblem frames and repeating leaf ornament.
