On the making of etchings

Short, Frank, Sir, 1857-1945 · 1898 · London : R. Dunthorne · 14 pictures

A short technical treatise on etching technique by the English printmaker Frank Short, published in London by Robert Dunthorne in 1898 for artists and students learning to bite and print copper plates. The illustrations are pen-drawn initial letters and small headpieces in dense parallel hatching, showing printers bent over plates, lamps, presses and studio corners, with figures set inside framed letterforms and type dropped into the white space beside them — usable as decorative initials, workshop vignettes and models for hatched line shading.
