A Russian technical manual on carriages built with horizontal (lying) springs, written by Stoke and printed in St. Petersburg in 1851 for coachbuilders and carriage owners. The hand-coloured lithographic plates pair side elevations of open carriages with overhead plans and spring details, using flat black bodies, yellow wheels and springs, red upholstery and Cyrillic key letters on pale cream grounds — useful for wheel and spoke silhouettes, thin-line mechanical diagrams, and a restricted black-yellow-red palette.
