Opticks: or, A treatise of the reflections, refractions, inflexions and colours of light. Also two treatises of the species and magnitude of curvilinear figures
Isaac Newton's Opticks, published in London in 1704 for the Royal Society, sets out his experiments on reflection, refraction and colour alongside two treatises on curvilinear figures. The engraved plates carry numbered geometric diagrams: ray bundles converging through prisms and lenses, a shaded double rainbow over a hilltop, coiled springs, divided colour circles, and lattices of ruled lines useful as line-work and diagram sources.
