Origine de tous les cultes : ou Religion universelle
Charles-François Dupuis's comparative treatise on religion, published in Paris in 1795, arguing that all cults derive from sun worship and the zodiac, written for learned readers of the revolutionary Republic; the indexed copy belonged to John Adams. The single plate here is a coarse letterpress woodcut vignette carrying Republican emblems — draped Liberty, cannon, wheel, and the lettering RÉPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE and LIBERTÉ ÉGALITÉ — useful as period type ornament and revolutionary insignia.
