Origin and history of the American flag and of the naval and yacht-club signals, seals and arms, and principal national songs of the United States, with a chronicle of the symbols, standards, banners, and flags of ancient and modern nations
A two-volume reference on flags, seals, signals and national songs compiled by naval officer George Henry Preble and revised by Charles Edward Asnis, published in Philadelphia in 1917 for flag historians and vexillologists. The plates are line engravings of state and national seals, coats of arms and signal flags: circular medallions with scrollwork cartouches, motto ribbons, heraldic beasts, ships and hatched skies.
