The origin of laws, arts, and sciences : and their progress among the most ancient of nations
Antoine-Yves Goguet's comparative history of ancient law, art and science, completed by Alexandre Fugère and englished by Robert Henry and Alexander Spearman for the Edinburgh learned book trade in 1775. The engravings copy Egyptian funerary stelae and obelisks: hawks, cartouches, seated deities and offering scenes set in dotted grounds, plus an armorial bookplate with lion crest and motto ribbon, all usable as line-engraved hieroglyphic ornament.
