Orphevs evcharisticvs. Sive devs absconditvs humanitatis illecebris illustriores mundi partes ad se pertrahens, vltroneas arcanae maiestatis adoratrices
An emblem book of Eucharistic devotion by Augustin Chesneau, engraved by Albert Flamen and printed in Paris in 1657, pairing Latin mottoes on ribbon scrolls with French couplets for Catholic readers. The small square plates set birds, animals and tiny figures in etched landscapes of cliffs, rivers and scrubby trees, giving designers ready-made banner cartouches, fine hatched rock and water texture, and compact animal vignettes.
