Otia sacra : optima fides
A volume of devotional Latin and English verse by Mildmay Fane, second Earl of Westmorland, printed in London by Richard Cotes in 1648 for private circulation among friends and family. The plates are woodcut pattern poems and emblem devices — acrostic initials tied by long curling brackets, a banderole arched over a columnar list, a hatched globe — offering designers ready models for typographic diagrams, ribbon scrolls and letter-and-rule constructions.
