Otto von Guericke's Latin treatise on the vacuum and his air-pump experiments at Magdeburg, printed in Amsterdam by Janssonius van Waesberge in 1672 for natural philosophers across Europe. Copperplate plates show pump apparatus, evacuated globes and hemispheres handled by men in period dress, sighting lines across landscapes, concentric planetary orbits, and cross-hatched lunar and terrestrial spheres.
