Our battalion : being some slight impressions of His Majesty's Auxiliary Forces, in camp and elsewhere
A collection of Leonard Raven-Hill's Punch cartoons about Britain's volunteer and militia battalions, published by the Punch Office in London in 1902 for a magazine-reading civilian and part-time soldier audience. The drawings are loose pen-and-ink line work with heavy diagonal hatching for uniforms and ground, showing two- and three-figure exchanges between officers and men, rifles, kit and slouch hats against blank or lightly sketched camp landscapes; useful for gestural figure poses, hatching textures and period military dress.
