Our country's flag and the flags of foreign countries
A popular handbook on flag history and vexillology by astronomer Edward Singleton Holden, published by D. Appleton in New York in 1898 for American schoolchildren and general readers. The plates are wood-engraved flags flying from staffs, modelled entirely in parallel line hatching, with stars and crosses left as white paper — usable as line-art textures, banner silhouettes and engraved shading patterns.
