The painter, gilder, and varnisher's companion: containing rules and regulations in everything relating to the arts of painting, gilding, varnishing, and glass-staining ..
A mid-century American trade manual issued by H. C. Baird in Philadelphia in 1850, compiling recipes and working rules for house and industrial painters, gilders, varnishers, and glass-stainers. The scanned plates here are the Library of Congress endpapers: a repeating diagonal lattice of the seal eagle with shield, ringed by lettering, printed in gold ink on cream stock, usable as tiling ornament, roundel device, or endpaper ground.
