The painters of the school of Seville
A survey of Sevillian painting by the Spanish art historian Narciso Sentenach y Cabañas, translated by Mrs. Steuart Erskine and published in London and New York in 1911 for English-speaking readers of art history. The 31 halftone plates reproduce altarpieces and devotional canvases by Zurbarán, Murillo and their circle, offering dark tonal grounds, hovering putti, haloed Madonnas, monastic habits and hands holding open books.
