A 1915 popular-science serial piece by Edwin Edser surveying contemporary technology for general British readers, with plates borrowed from "Discoveries and Inventions of the Twentieth Century." The pictures are coarse-screened halftone photographs of submarine interiors — a periscope tube's lower telescope, an engine room looking forward — dense with pipework, gauges and symmetrical machinery, each sitting under a small-caps figure caption usable as texture, cutout hardware or period technical framing.
