Parlour magic
A collection of parlour tricks and scientific recreations issued by H. Perkins in Philadelphia in 1838, printed by Barrington and Haswell for families amusing themselves at home. Wood engravings pair rococo scroll cartouches enclosing naked children at tables, nets and apparatus with outline foliate initials and small instructional diagrams, offering designers ready-made ornamental frames, drop caps and vignettes of hands at work.
