Emblemata Florentii Schoonhovii I.C. Goudani, partim moralia, partim etiam civilia. Cum latiori eorundem ejusdem auctoris interpretatione. Accedunt et alia quaedam poëmatia in alijs poëmatum suorum libris non contenta
A Latin emblem book of moral and civic mottoes written by the Gouda jurist Florens Schoonhoven, printed by Andreas Burier in 1618 with engravings from the van de Passe workshop, for educated readers who read pictures as arguments. The 81 small oblong copperplates set one or two figures in open country — a traveller with a staff, a hunter aiming at a stag, a giant sprawled on the ground, a man pointing at a snake — with fine hatched skies, feathery trees and distant hills, useful for sourceable single-figure vignettes, emblem frames and landscape backgrounds.
