Histoire de l'astronomie ancienne : depuis son origine jusqu'a l'etablissement de l'Ecole d'Alexandrie
Jean-Sylvain Bailly's scholarly history of ancient astronomy, printed in Paris in 1775 by the Frères de Bure for learned readers of the French Enlightenment. The two plates indexed here are typographic ornaments rather than diagrams: a small framed woodcut landscape of a country house across water flanked by trees, and a symmetrical headpiece of acanthus scrolls, palmettes and a footed basket of flowers, usable as rules, chapter heads and frames.
