Peeps at heraldry
An introductory heraldry primer by Phoebe Allen, published in London by Adam and Charles Black in 1912 for young readers learning to read coats of arms. The plates are small line-engraved shields that render heraldic tinctures as hatching conventions—horizontal, vertical and diagonal rules, stipple fields—with charges such as a rampant lion and pierced roundels drawn in crosshatch; useful as ready-made pattern swatches, shield outlines and hatching textures.
