Edward Kimber's peerage of England, printed in London in 1766 for readers tracking the ranks, offices and arms of the British nobility, in a copy once owned by John Adams. The plates are rows of engraved escutcheons filled with quartered fields, chevrons, crosses, ermine spots, roundels and hatched tinctures, plus blank shields ready to be charged — a supply of small heraldic units, line-shading patterns and shield outlines for monograms, labels and crests.
