Pennsylvania art contributions : State Building, Art Gallery and Woman's Building
An official exhibition catalogue of paintings sent by Pennsylvania to the World's Columbian Exposition of 1893, compiled by the state's Committee on Fine Arts and printed in Harrisburg for fairgoers and art patrons. The plates are halftone reproductions of late-nineteenth-century American canvases—figures in gardens and woods, groups in landscape, draped allegorical figures—with soft tonal gradients and dark masses of foliage useful for atmospheric backgrounds and period figure studies.
