Pensées diverses ecrites à un docteur de Sorbonne a l'occasion de la comete, qui parut au mois de Decembre 1680
Pierre Bayle's argument against reading the comet of 1680 as an omen, issued as letters to a Sorbonne doctor and reprinted in Amsterdam by Meinard Uytwerf in 1749 for a learned European readership. The scans hold typographic furniture rather than scenes: a foliate woodcut initial, a headpiece of paired parrots flanking a crowned mask, an engraved armorial bookplate, and marbled endpapers in red, green and black.
