Philosophia vetus et nova : ad usum scholae accommodata, in Regia Burgundia olim pertractata
A Latin course in natural philosophy by Jean-Baptiste Du Hamel, printed in Paris by Étienne Michallet in 1684 and arranged for classroom use after lectures given at the Collège de Bourgogne. The pictures are small letterpress woodcut diagrams: concentric circles quartered by axes and crossed by dotted chords, lens shapes with converging ray lines, all keyed by italic capitals, offering designers plain geometric line figures and a vocabulary of labelled construction marks.
